WEEKEND: 3 Things to Do

HISTORY TRADE FAIR

If Lewis and Clark had held a yard sale before heading west, it might have looked a little like the Cahokia Courthouse's annual trade fair, which returns on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Aimed at reenactors portraying life in the 1700s and 1800s, the trade fair includes period clothing and tools, history and reference books, outdoor dining and cooking utensils, reproduction glassware and ceramics and all manner of accessories.

Anyone interested in items representing the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, Lewis and Clark Expedition or the War of 1812 will find something.

Past fairs at Cahokia Courthouse were held in the fall.

The event has been moved to the spring so historic interpreters can fill gaps in their gear or replace damaged items before the traditional reenacting season gets underway.

It's also a chance for newcomers to get started in the living history community.

The event is sponsored by Fete du Bon Vieux Temps Inc. and Cahokia Courthouse State Historic Site.

Vendor spaces are $5 in advance. A limited number of spaces may be available on the day of the event for a $10 fee.

In case of rainout, the $5 permit fee will be donated to Cahokia Courthouse State Historic Site.
