Du Quoin-area sits down at Sacred Heart's table on Sunday

The annual Sacred Heart chicken and dumpling dinner has become a community dinner and probably set a record on Sunday as friends of the church lined the sidewalk and hallway at Haffner Hall long before the 11 a.m. start of the annual dinner. The chicken & dumplings were piping hot, served on china, with buttered corn, green beans, cole slaw and hundreds of fresh homemade desserts. Pictured is the scene at Haffner Hall at 11:30 a.m. as tickets were being sold outside the doors (left) and desserts fill 25 feet of tables just inside the doors. The newspaper will publish the outcome just as soon as it becomes available.
