Letter to the editor: Lack of ICU beds due to COVID is a tragedy
To the editor: I have held my tongue for months but can do so no longer. Yesterday, I read an article published in the Carbondale Times titled, "Number of available ICU beds critically low, as COVID spikes in region." After reading this article, I feel I must speak my mind about the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations for the health and safety of southern Illinois and for the preservation of our health care system. The article states that nearly all of southern Illinois' ICU beds are being used by unvaccinated patients who are critically ill with COVID-19. Let me be clear; the pain and suffering these patients and their families are experiencing is nothing short of a tragedy.

Letters to the editor: Not getting the vaccine is plain stupid
To the editor: I have been biting my tongue but I can't any longer. I must write about COVID. I am an old retired guy but the Carbondale community and Memorial Hospital mean a great deal to me. A doctor once told me as you age you become unfiltered but with me no one will ever know because I have always been unfiltered. I am sure my comments will offend some and for that I am sorry. There is no reason for us to be having a COVID problem. As a member of society we have a responsibility to our fellow man. We must protect each other. When you refuse to be vaccinated you are a threat to society, small children and medically compromised adults. You are a selfish threat.

Letter to the editor: Bryant says lockdown of state prisons must continue
To the editor: As 115th District state representative, I have been frustrated with recent policy decisions made by the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Pritzker Administration. Daily news reports are detailing multiple IDOC inmates and staff members are contracting COVID-19 and occupying hospital bed space in community hospitals. I warned Illinois Corrections officials a month ago that they should implement lockdown at state corrections facilities. Thankfully, IDOC did finally take the step to lockdown its facilities two weeks ago.
