20 Minutes of Fireworks After Lee Greenwood Show

Plans for the largest patriotic celebration in Southern Illinois' history have gotten even better.

Du Quoin State Fair Manager John Rednour, Jr., announced today that there will be a 20-minute firework show immediately following the free Lee Greenwood concert on Sunday, Aug. 26.

"Plans for this show just keep getting better," Rednour said.

A number of communities this year were unable to hold annual Fourth of July firework displays due to dry, hazardous conditions. Fireworks on Aug. 26 - along with the concert - will be a way many whose communities were affected can celebrate their freedom this year.

The Greenwood concert, billed as "Red, White, Blue & You," will celebrate the nation's freedom, its veterans, and current men and women fighting to defend America. There is no admission cost thanks to the show's primary sponsor, Continental Tire.

Now, in addition to free admission, there will also be free American flags given out to the first 5,000 persons who enter the show thanks to a sponsorship from Pass One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning.

A sponsorship from Peoples National Bank is helping to fund the fireworks display.

"We have promised one of the largest patriotic events in Southern Illinois' history," Rednour said. "We believe this show will be a huge attraction, but we are also working everyday to make it even bigger and better."
