Marshall Browning Hospital gift shop holiday open house is this Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
New window lettering, a new line of children's toys and puzzles, a new line of jewelry and purses; all with design flare, are just some of the items visitors will find at the Lily Bee Gift Shop in the lobby of Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin at the shop's Holiday Open House on Friday, November 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Great Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers, and teacher gifts will be available to purchase now before the Christmas rush. All fall merchandise will be 40% off. Many items will be discounted especially for the one-day event, which will include refreshments and a door prize.
The shop's displays, created by volunteer Don Schutt, are brilliant; arrangements similar to those found in high-end stores where Don worked for years before retiring to Du Quoin. He has generated fresh ideas such as ordering the famous Melissa & Doug toys that have been very successful.
"There aren't many grandmothers who can resist this creative and colorful line of toys. They may come in for candy and a card and leave with $50 in toys. It's wonderful," beams Schutt.
"Our embellished purses and jewelry are still very popular, especially the fashionable scarves and watches." says buyer Colleen Furry who assists Schutt with ordering items.
Lily Bee is staffed exclusively by MBH Auxiliary members and all proceeds from sales benefits the hospital in some way. According to MBH Auxiliary President Sarah Doerner, "The Auxiliary has made a great contribution to the success of MBH. Members have accumulated many volunteer hours and raised a great deal of money to buy needed equipment and other items for the needs of the patients. By supporting the Lily Bee Gift Shop, this is a way to also support your local hospital."
