A feel-good Saturday for Markotay family

When Sheila Haggard of the Perry County Humane Society called Elessar Electric of Du Quoin to ask about the price of installing two ventilation fans in the kennels at the shelter, it didn't take Bob Markotay's wife Teresa long. "We want to donate all of the work," she told Haggard. With a very deep discount on the two fans from Bruce Zoller at Home Lumber Co. and all of the hardware and lumber donated free, Bob Markotay and son Bob (pictured at right) spent Saturday cutting out sections of the block walls at the humane society, building custom frames for the fans and running wiring to the units, which create decidedly fresher kennels at the shelter. The shelter routinely cares for between 50 and 60 dogs and more than 25 cats. Haggard extended her deep appreciation to the Markotays and Elessar Electric and reminds residents that despite a recent large donation to the shelter, please don't stop your giving the money will be used. Markotay says of wife Teresa, "Teresa works very hard behind the scene to make everything we do possible. So, special thanks to my wife. She is the glue that holds me together. Without her I would be lost." It doesn't get any better than that.
