Alongi's wins Du Quoin State Fair beer contract

The Illinois Department of Agriculture says Alongi's Since 1933 will be awarded the beer concession for the 2013 and 2014 Du Quoin State Fairs. The Combined Veterans of Illinois have until June 19 to appeal.

Alongi's will pay the Du Quoin State Fair $130.33 for every keg of beer sold; $30.33 for every case of 16 ounce bottled beer sold and $10.33 for every case of 16 ounce cans sold.

Generally, there are 165 12-ounce cups of beer to a keg or 124 16-ounce cups. Beers at the fair sell for $4.

The Combined Veterans of Illinois bid a payment of $53.00 to the state for every keg sold; $14.00 for every case of bottled beer and $8 for every case of canned beer sold at the Du Quoin fair.

Alongi's did not bid on the contract at the Illinois State Fair. The Combined Veterans will be awarded that contract, offering $50.00 per keg and $13.00 per case for every case of 16 ounce bottles or cans. The appeal of that contract ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday

Legislation that would have waived the bid process for the Combined Veterans passed the senate, but got buried in the rules committee of the Illinois house.
